The Albert Lab is recruiting

UPDATE: The Albert lab is moving to Oregon State University. Stay tuned for updates on opportunities here:

Undergraduate students

Undergraduate students at West Virginia University who are interested in joining the lab are encouraged to check out funded opportunities through the WVU SURE program, and the WVU RAP program, and to contact Dr. Albert well in advance of the program deadlines.

Graduate students

Before applying, students interested in our research themes should contact Dr. Albert by email with a copy of their CV and a description of their research interests to begin a conversation. Financial support for PhD students is typically available for five years through departmental graduate teaching assistantships (as described here), and graduate research assistantships may also be available (please inquire). In addition, students should consider applying for one of WVU’s graduate fellowships, and/or the NSF GRFP. Please examine the Biology Department’s admission process, and note the WVU requirements for international graduate students, especially English language requirements.

Note that the number of graduate students admitted is limited each year, and applications are reviewed by committee.

Postdoctoral Researchers

We will periodically announce searches for postdoctoral researchers here. Stay tuned!

FAQs about WVU and Morgantown

FAQs

What is there to do for fun in Morgantown?

If you like the outdoors, you’ll enjoy Morgantown. Check out this interactive map of outdoor adventures nearby. Cooper’s rock is a local favorite for hiking, cross country skiing, picnic, and rock climbing. The city of Morgantown has restaurants, shops, a climbing gym, and a downtown farmer’s market. The city of Pittsburgh is about an hour and 15 minutes away for more museums, zoos, and the closest international airport.

Can you ride your bike in Morgantown?

There are several long bike trails in Morgantown (converted from former railway tracks). You can see a map of them here. If you live near one of these bike paths, then it is easy to bike to campus. Another non-car system that is unique in Morgantown is the PRT. This is like a small train that can help students get around (especially between campuses). You can read about the PRT here.

Is there a health insurance plan available to graduate students?

WVU negotiated a special rate for students through Aetna. You can find out more about the student health insurance plan here. If you click on ‘Learn about Aetna’s plan’ then you can see the current cost.
